We left Thailand from Koh Samui Airport, which is apparently the world’s most unique airport – with its open-air and tropical design!

From Samui we were flying first to Singapore and then on to our connecting flight to Denpasar, Bali – all with our favourite budget airline Scoot!
Singapore airport couldn’t be more different from Samui airport. We had around 4hrs in the airport, which gave us enough time to check out the sites, including the swimming pool and cactus garden!

We arrived in Bali and got a taxi to our accommodation in Ubud. We booked the transfer in advance with booking.com, which worked really well – driver was waiting for us as we left the airport. The taxi took around an 1hr and a half to Ubud and cost a grand total of £10.12.

We were staying in a traditional Balinese guesthouse near the centre of Ubud. It was a very authentic area with locals living all around. A family lived below with two young children and there were three guest rooms above their house. We had a nice little outside kitchen and traditional seating area.

Ubud is seen as the more spiritual and cultural heart of Bali, having a mix of traditional Balinese life, artisan, wellness, and natural beauty.
On our first full day in Ubud, we stayed local and walked the short distance to Ubud Palace. The palace was the former royal residence of the king of Ubud.

Hindus believe the statues are not just artistic representations and they are dressed to honour the spirits that reside in them.
From here we walked through to the centre of Ubud. We found the centre of Ubud very busy and touristy but it was good to see.
We later went to the outskirts of Ubud to the Campuhan Ridge Walk, which is a scenic trail that goes past temples and rice terraces. The trail takes around 1hr and a half round trip and was really interesting.

After the ridge walk, we went out for the evening to the ARMA museum to see a traditional Kecak Fire Dance. The traditional dance originates from sacred trance rituals from the 1930s and blends art and storytelling, with some impressive costumes!

Goodnight!
