Dotonbori, Osaka

On our second full day in Osaka, we started the day with a gym workout. We were lucky that the accommodation we were staying in was really nice and had a small gym in it.

After the gym, it was then time to venture out and make more use of our ‘Osaka Amazing Pass’.

Our accommodation was really well located and we could walk to the Dotonbori district which is known for being a lively entertainment area, with extravagant lights, signage and lots of restaurants and bars.

We went on a short boat ride through Dotonbori, taking in the 9 Dotonbori bridges.

We then walked back through the side streets…

And then past a very small temple.

The temple looked more like a locals temple. It was quite nice to see people going about their daily lives, compared to the more touristy sites.

The Dotonbori area was a lot more edgy than other places in Osaka. It had quite a lot of character, a bit like a Japanese Camden.

We then walked through the America-mura area, which blends Japanese culture with American atmosphere. There were lots of unique shops, street art, street food and a Statue of Liberty!

After a lot of walking, it was time for us to get dinner for the evening. We found a really nice Japanese vegetarian restaurant in the centre of Dotonbori.

We had a delicious mix of Takoyaki, Gyoza and Yakisoba.

Mmmmmm

It was then time to head home for the evening, through the crowds!
