We arrived in Tokyo and after checking in to our accommodation we headed to the famous Omiode Yokocho or Yakitori Alley, known for its small streets and authentic restaurants!
Originally an illegal drinking quarter in the 1940s, the narrow side street was known for cheap drinks, yakitori (bite sized meat) and very small bars. Due to the lack of toilets people would wander off to the nearby train tracks, and ‘piss alley’ became its local name. In the post war period, it was most commonly visited by local residents who couldn’t afford meat and alcohol elsewhere.
We went to one of the little restaurants and enjoyed a delicious char-grilled meal prepared in front of us!
